AI is starting to wear down democracy — as the NYT reports, "content generated by artificial intelligence has become a factor in elections around the world". John Oliver in AI Slop: Last Week Tonight underscores the growing issue, explaining "why you’ve been seeing more AI-generated content online and the harm it can do". Keep in mind that AI's current capabilities, understanding and rendered audio-, image and video-quality is "the worst AI will ever be". It's not just a tool, but a force of transformation, reshaping societies in ways we're only beginning to grasp. Brings to mind the 1999 BBC interview with David Bowie, about the internet, its implications and promises, good and bad: "Is there life on Mars? Yes, it just landed here."
