The Tangram prints draw inspiration from a Chinese puzzle known as the "Seven Boards of Skill", an ancient puzzle consisting of seven flat pieces, called tans, which can be arranged into various shapes. Legend has it that a monk instructed his student to paint the world's beauty on a single ceramic tile – the tile broke, inspiring the student to seek true beauty within the broken parts. These prints are an illustration of those tangram shapes and, scaled to size, an arrangement of abstract solids that transforms the figurative idea.
